SEO and You

SEO. What is it and how can it help your website look, feel and rank better than the competition? Well, for starters, search engines love SEO writing and if you don’t have it, then you’re in big trouble. It stands for search engine optimization and it helps your site rank well with search engines which in turn gets your site seen by people who do online searches each day. And really, who doesn’t do online searches? It’s huge and if you want online traffic you need SEO to work for you.

Key words are something that you need your writing to contain as these link back to the site and are optimal at getting your page noticed. Key words should be as helpful to your guests as their initial search is. For example, if your site is about dogs a main keyword would be dog but also things associated with dogs, so things like bark, tail, canine, etc would need to be used. First you don’t want to confuse your reader, and second you want those words that may be used in a search to lead the user back to you.

To annoy a search engine with your content is a kiss of death for a website. Sites that are full of keyword stuffing, those who’s pages are lacking in information or those hard to navigate can be deemed untrustworthy and will rank low, if at all.

But what of ranking? Who cares? Well, if it’s your site and you get no traffic you will care. Imagine you are searching for something and the first two or three sites were an absolute mess. You didn’t get the answer you were looking for and you’re more confused than ever. With SEO this never happens because the pages are ranked in such a way that the one with the most keywords matching your search pop up first. Unless you are really, really, really looking for something to do, no one will go to page 2 or beyond on a search. This is because we have come to learn that the best pages are the ones that display first. If the first one doesn’t work, it’s a sure bet the second one will. Everyone is happy with their information and the site gets its traffic. Keeping it real, keeping it trustworthy and getting SEO to work for you are all signs your site is going in the right direction.
